Richmond families keep calling the same company back

Custom Kitchens has been doing kitchen remodeling in Richmond, VA for over 65 years, and the Hendrick family still runs it. The work covers kitchens, bathrooms and built-in cabinetry, planned by certified designers and installed by experienced craftsmen.

Many of its clients are not on their first project. One Google reviewer had the firm remodel his kitchen, then came back years later for the primary bath.

A Libbie and Grove client wrote that every time they move, they call Custom Kitchens for the renovation. The company's promise has not changed in decades: listen, do it right and do it on time.

What Custom Kitchens designs and installs

Kitchen Renovations

Full kitchen renovations planned from layout to hardware by a certified designer, then installed by the CKI team from tear-out to final install. The showroom carries brands such as Wolf, Sub-Zero, Bosch and Omega Cabinetry, so you can compare appliances and cabinets you won't find at a big box store.

Bath Renovations

Primary baths and powder rooms designed with the same care as a kitchen, from vanity cabinetry and tile to fixtures and lighting. Recent work ranges from a sparkling primary retreat with a freestanding tub and walnut vanity to a powder room with patterned wallpaper and brass fittings.

Built-In Cabinetry

Home offices, bars and other built-in cabinetry, designed by the same certified designers who plan kitchens. Clients go through the same process for every project, which the firm says lowers stress, shortens construction time and produces the best result.

Reasons Richmond homeowners give for choosing CKI

01

Three generations in one showroom

Richard Hendrick took over from his father, the founder, in 1986. His sons Kyle, Carter and Curtis now work as designers and managers, so the family name is on every job.

02

Certified designers on staff

The team includes Certified Kitchen Designers such as Richard Hendrick and Allison Stowers, along with licensed contractors and experienced craftsmen. A certified designer is always on site at the showroom.

03

A price you can hold them to

A North Chesterfield client wrote that designer Kyle offered layout and price options, then 'We determined a price and worked to it and stuck to it!' The expected price creep never came.

Meet Richard Hendrick, president since 1986

Richard Hendrick has spent his whole career in the family business. He started as a carpenter's helper in high school and college, learning how kitchens are actually built.

His father, the founder of Custom Kitchens, was his mentor and taught the client-first approach the company still runs on. Richard became president in 1986 and is a Certified Kitchen Designer known for award-winning designs.

He has since brought in the third generation: Kyle as vice president and designer, Carter as designer and Curtis, a former installation manager, as vice president of operations.

Questions we hear in the Horsepen Road showroom

Do I need an appointment to visit the showroom?

No. The showroom is open to the public Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, and a certified designer is always on site. After-hours appointments are available on request. If you want private time with a designer, leave your details and the team will set up a complimentary design session.

Which brands can I see in person?

The showroom features many high-end finishes and hardware lines plus brands such as Wolf, Sub-Zero, Bosch and Omega Cabinetry. These are products you usually cannot find at a big box store, and seeing them side by side makes choosing cabinets and appliances much easier.

When do I pay a deposit?

Planning comes first: your designer listens, discusses the project and budget and explains your options. A design deposit starts the design phase of drafts, finish selections, perspectives and revisions. You sign the construction contract only after the design is done, and materials arrive before demolition starts.

Will I have a working kitchen during the remodel?

Custom Kitchens sets up a temporary kitchen as part of the installation phase, so you can still make coffee and simple meals while the old kitchen comes out. Ordering and receiving materials before construction begins also keeps the time without a kitchen as short as possible.

What happens if something needs fixing later?

The company handles warranty claims. One Google reviewer bought a home with a kitchen Custom Kitchens had recently renovated, and said Curtis and Blake went above and beyond when a warranty issue came up. Ask your designer for the written warranty terms for your project.
